About
The Piano Extravaganza festival and competition are coordinated by award-winning concert pianist and director of URI’s piano program, Dr. Manabu Takasawa. He conceived and organized the first competition in 2003, and has seen it grow in size and quality each year since then.
The festival consists of concerts on Friday and Saturday nights, an amateur competition on Saturday, and a young pianist competition (not yet college age) on Sunday.
The young pianist competition consists of three divisions; high school, middle school, and elementary school. It provides a formal, but relaxed, concert-style format open to even the youngest performers.
